The Accommodation / Le Logement

Living Room
There is a sofa-bed and a second 3 seat sofa. The floor is tiled with central rug and there is a coffee table and lamps. The television receives British channels and will play DVDs. There is a CD player. The log fire can be lit in the cooler months and enough logs are provided for a week of evening fires. French windows lead to a sunny patio immediately outside.

Bedroom
A standard size double bed will give you a good nights sleep ready for the new day. A fitted wardrobe provides ample strorage for clothing for the week. The bedroom french window opens out onto the rear patio which gets the evening sun. The window overlooks the private rear garden.

Bathroom
The bathroom consists of a spacious shower, toilet, heated towel-rail, and wash basin. There is an airing cupboard which houses the hot water tank.

Kitchen
The well fitted kitchen contains everything you need for a self-catering stay. Cooking is electric and there is an under-worktop fridge, washing machine, and dishwasher. We provide a kettle and microwave oven and there are pots and pans, cups, mugs and glasses, crockery and cutlery etc for your use. The kitchen has plenty of cupboard space and a small table and 4 chairs for dining.

Outside
A drive leads off the small lane through double gates. There is room for parking one or two cars. Outside the French windows is a patio area with seating and a brick barbecue. There are shady gardens to the front and side of the property, and a grass area with a second sheltered patio to the rear. There is a fridge/freezer in one of the small outbuildings available for your use.

The Local Area

Chef Boutonne market picture
Market

The local market town of Chef Boutonne is 4km away and gives easy access to all services including 2 supermarkets. In the town square there is a lively French market every Saturday morning. Chef Boutonne is rich in history and well worth exploring. Tennis courts and a new outdoor swimming pool are among the facilities on offer. Places of interest include the local goat trails in many of the villages.

Javarzay chateau picture
Javarzay

There are several historical places to visit, such as the Gallo-Roman château of Javarzay. Jean-François Cail is one of the famous inhabitants; born in 1804, he became one of the most brilliant industrialists of the 19th century. His name is one of those inscribed on the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Very much a man before his time, you can find out more in the audio-visual presentation at Javarzay.

The surrounding area offers tennis, horse-riding, kayaking, boating and swimming, and you don't have to travel too far to find a golf course or a fishing lake either. Less sporty choices include trips to the Atlantic coast, to La Rochelle or the Ile de Ré; shopping and sightseeing excursions to the nearby large towns of Melle, Poitiers or Niort. Or take a leisurely boat trip down the peaceful waterways of the Marais Poitévin. The La Rochelle beaches offer award winning handicap assistance. Nearer home, there is a fresh water beach for children just 15 minutes away.

Puy du Fou picture
Puy du Fou

One of France's most visited attractions is the theme park of Futuroscope which is also only just over an hour's drive away and well worth a visit for the whole family. At 2 hours drive, Puy du Fou is still well worth visiting. Plan to spend a full day and include the evening spectacular. In 2012 Puy de Fou was voted "best theme park in the world".

At similar distances are the vineyards of Bordeaux, the distilleries of Cognac and the world famous zoo La Palmyre. The château at Chinon is being restored and has splendid views over the town and river.
