We visited Brico Dépôt one Friday morning (early) for parts because even down at Angoulême it was lower cost. We called in and bought the first part of our ‘wants’ and on the way out saw that there was an extensive breakfast selection available. Since no-one was serving, I asked a nearby Frenchman who was eating gustily “Est il gratuit?” (Is it free?) and for some reason he answered in English, “Yes, eat everything free”.
We couldn’t manage ‘everything’ but we did manage croissant, pain au chocolate, orange juice, coffee, cheese, and a ham sandwich between us. It appears the early morning builder gets to eat (this is France) as part of the job.
On the way out, we said hello to our local Mayor (buying windows, no doubt at sensible prices) before continuing to the upper depot for the rest of our bits. It looks like we must have found the best place for a good deal for miles if the Mayor uses them!
