Some of you will know of Eric Casto, but for those who don’t, Eric is an American evangelist who is associated with our church in Horsham. Eric has carried a cross through the streets of London at Christmas and Easter for the last few years.
This year we went over to help out.
June had woken one morning with a strong dream of London and we investigated Eric’s website for events. There were none mentioned, nor on the church web, but just to be sure I emailed my contact in Horsham. As a result we were on the team and Terry was down to drive the bus!
Actually driving the bus was great. A super new 17 seated with 6 forward gears. It purred along and was very light considering its length and width. It was a great view from high up in the driving seat, and we got the impression that everyone except the London busses got out of our way!
It was a good, if tiring, couple of days after which we managed to get to see Clare and Mike in their new flat. Jon and Hina made sure they bumped into us on the streets on Saturday. It was sad to miss Roger but we missed a lot of people on this whirl-wind visit only just managing to squeeze a call into Hastings as we went for the Newhaven ferry.
The trip home was one of the best yet which is odd because neither of us was looking forward to it. We arrived on time in France at 3:30am and were off the boat quickly. After 2½ hours of driving we slept in our new sleeping bags in the car and woke up 2 hours later. Much refreshed we drove on until we spotted a sign to Chinon, and since it was a lovely day we went there for lunch at the castle. A bit out of the way, but a great place to visit and it saved 8 Euros in tolls!

This old team photo shows us with Eric who is in front of the cross (the one in blue of course).
The cross has a wheel on the back for very practical reasons. It causes much comment from passers bye!
