But for those of you who don’t know, we are now living in France, not where the above photo was taken, in a small hamlet called Narçay. Not that it is on every map- look for 79110 Loubillé and we are 1km from there.

It’s printemps (spring) and still chilly, but the worst of winter appears to be over. The log fires (2) are still burning and trips out can be interrupted by the weather, like last Sunday’s gales.

Yes we did experience terrific winds and some rain. It persisted into the morning and we took the advice to not travel seriously- mainly due to the likelihood of trees being down, not to mention over 50 people killed in France.

All contact was lost. The power went off, then on for a bit, then off again at about 3am. Ours stayed off until 4pm but others suffered power loss until the next day.

We had very little damage. A couple of tiles moved on the roof, and our neighbours lost a couple which fell and smashed on the road.

At times like these, we shut up the shutters and retire until morning. Candles and torches are part of country life!
